Kvaser develops interfaces and data loggers for any flavor of CAN and CAN related buses to meet customer system requirements. The Kvaser USB to CAN devices are the approved products of MotoHawk. Kvaser tools are easy to use, accurate and state-of-the-art. Rigorous quality assurance and control processes for both hardware and software ensures that Kvaser delivers a user-friendly and up-to-date tool. Also using Kvaser products is recommended to be used with MotoHawk applications because it is all compatible and other tools may not be compatible. Kvaser products are also very cost effective.


Hardware

Kvasers hardware interfaces can be used throughout the product cycle, for development,simulation, test, and other maintenance of CAN networks and related. All Kvaser Hardware is designed to perform at their optimum in industrial or automotive temperature ranges, while some are specifically ruggedised to endure the most hostile of environments.

Understanding the Kvaser Part Numbers

  • Leaf = Single Channel
  • USB CAN = Dual Channel
  • Rugged = Galvanic, IP67 Packaging
  • HS = High Speed ( 1MB ), but does not reflect the message rate capability, typically between 8K - 20K messages / second.

Kvaser Memorator Professional

Kvaser Memorator Professional provides the functionality of a standalone CAN bus data logger and a USB CAN bus interface in a single device. When combined with the Kvaser Linx, the Kvaser Memorator Professional also supports bus types like J1587.

As a data logger, the Kvaser Memorator Professional is the perfect tool to capture irregular faults in the field or perform remote diagnosis. A great advantage is that all configurations are made with a user-friendly configuration program and are stored on the flash disk. It makes it both easy and convenient to set configurations with the PC and download it to Kvaser Memorator Professional for use in the field. The Kvaser Memorator Professional also has a USB connection and can be used as a powerful USB CAN bus interface just like Kvaser's USBCAN or Leaf products.

Triggers and Data Logger capabilities

  • Kvaser Memorator can log continuously, or logging can be triggered by creating advanced triggers based on messages, data signal values, error messages, external trigger's falling or rising edge, and I/O signals.
  • Pre- and post-triggers are available without buffer size restrictions, limited by disk space only.

Filters

  • Kvaser Memorator Professional can filter out selectable messages and/or signals to be logged. The identifiers can be picked from a database, or all messages can be logged.

  • Create a counting pass filter to have a message logged at enumerated occurrence.

Memory cards and functions

  • Standard MMC or SD type flash memory cards can be used - up to 2GB.
  • Support for 16GB SDHC cards. Larger SDHC cards supported in the future - up to 32GB.
  • Set up several devices in a daisy chain for larger logging capacity.
  • Transfer recorded data over the USB interface at 1.4 MB/s or an SD card reader at 15 MB/s.

Kvaser Memorator Professional (KMP) versus Kvaser Memorator (KM)

  1. KMP has battery backup in case of power loss. KM doesn’t have battery backup. This is the best reason to sell the KMP. Most customers want to know why there was a power loss and KMP will have data to support the power loss. KM usually loses this data.
  2. KMP has a shorter boot up time of 250ms. KM has a boot up time of 3000ms.
  3. KMP can use SD and SDHC cards up to 32 GB capacity. KM can only use SD cards up to 2GB.
  4. All new development will be on KMP. KM will remain unchanged.
  5. KMP has galvanic isolation (GI). KM doesn’t have GI.
  6. KMP is USB 2.0 and KM is only USB 1.1.

Harnesses

New Eagle sells harnesses to convert the DB9 connectors used by Kvaser to SmartCraft connectors. Currently, we have harnesses for application with the Leaf and USBCAN devices; we are in the process of developing a harness that includes the necessary power wires for the operation of the Memorator Professional in its stand-alone data logging mode.

Kvaser offers 3rd party software for analysis, simulation, calibration, debugging, and more. Developers can download software and start developing around any Kvaser interface right away.

CANKing

CANKing is a CAN bus monitor and general-purpose diagnostic tool. It is especially suited for interactive development work. CAN messages can be easily sent and the corresponding impact on the target module observed. To use CANKing it is necessary to purchase one of our CAN interfaces such as the Kvaser Leaf USB to CAN converters. It is a free software that comes with the Kvaser product. This product allows the user to see all CAN messages on the bus in either either decimal or hexadecimal forms. It also allows the user to send out simple test messages.
